MinaY Artistic Leather Handbags are made by hand in Brooklyn New York through fine arts and traditional leather smithing techniques inspired by universal creative energy, philosophy, science and mathematics. The pattern pieces are made from the father and mother figures of platonic solids which are a circle and rectangle. Two pieces come together harmoniously with a whip stitch from traditional leather smithing techniques. They can be worn as backpack, fanny pack, cross body bag or in their own very unique ways. Each bag is made once with available ingredients at hand. Made with saddlery leather and solid brass hardware in Brooklyn New York by Mina Yurtbilir. Head to toe made in USA.
I am the leather smith and creative director that made all of the bags I am submitting. Northern Lights came to be while I was studying "The Atmosphere. A very short introduction" by Oxford Press. I wanted to honor this amazing light show so one day maybe I san see it in real life too. Auroras arise as a result of ionized and neutral gases altered by incoming high energy particles. Color of the aurora depends on the gases emitting the photons. Green and red is produced by oxygen and blue or red is produced by nitrogen. The swirling patterns are due to the incoming electrons spiraling with Earth's magnetic field.
Our atmosphere is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen and %1 aerosols. When dinosaurs were alive, oxygen levels were at 35% from the data collected from ice caps. That may have been the reason for such gigantic life forms. However the reptilian force had to be wiped out of the earth so it could give rise to the development of mammal life. This is also when moon is said to have entered earth's gravitational field and created four seasons with tides it created. So how can all of this be reflected on a bag? When you find a key in the middle of a field, it doesn't make much sense without the information surrounding the situation. In the same sense, when you encounter an aurora, without the information surrounding the situation, it just looks like a cool light show. But it is not. It is how life communicates with human consciousness.
